More than a birth-year animal

The familiar twelve-animal cycle is only one layer of Chinese calendrical traditions. Systems such as BaZi consider year, month, day, and hour pillars, the ten heavenly stems, twelve earthly branches, and five phases.

Calendar boundaries

A person born in January or February may belong to a different animal year than a simple Gregorian lookup suggests. Traditions differ in using Lunar New Year or the solar-term boundary. Asteria does not calculate BaZi or replace specialist calendar methods.
