A field of experience
The 12 house is traditionally associated with solitude & reflection. Planets placed here bring their symbolism into this field of experience. An empty house is not an absent life area: its sign and ruler still form part of the chart.
Whole-sign context
Asteria uses whole-sign houses, beginning with the entire sign containing the Ascendant. Reliable birth time and location are necessary. Different house systems can produce different placements. Houses are omitted if the birth time is unknown or the location is too close to a geographic pole.
